Dorothy Napangardi is from the Warlpiri group of people. She commenced painting in 1987 and often refers to her traditional country of Mina Mina in her art.
Renditions of Dorothy's paintings are characterised by teh way she minimises all references to the customary Aboriginal iconography. Dorothy has won several awards including the 1991 Best Painting in European Media; 1998 First Prize, Northern Territory Award, Alice Springs; and the 18th National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award in 2001.
Dorothy Napangardi's paintings are sought by collectors around the world. Her works have featured in exhibitions throughout Australia, the USA and Europe where she is very highly regarded. She is one of the most respected and sought after indigenous artists in the globe today.
